The Power of Green

When styling a home for my clients to sell or stay, one of my favorite accent colors to use is green. Not only does green have wonderful connotations, but it works well with all colors. When people see green they are reminded of nature, energy, safety, money, freshness and growth. Green invokes positive, happy feelings.

Green looks good next to almost any color. Mixing blue and yellow makes the color green. Therefore, it sits in between yellow and blue on the color wheel. Green accents look wonderful in a blue room, or a yellow room. It also adds a nice pop of color in a more neutral room that has gray walls with hints of blue or beige walls with hints of yellow. It's complimentary to red on the color wheel and matches nicely in a house that has wood furniture with red tones, and complements leather furniture as well. Green complements nicely against purple and orange and is evenly spaced between these colors on the color wheel. There are so many shades of green to choose from! There's chartreuse, sage, olive, kelly, mint, seafoam, and the list goes on and on. It's impossible not to find the right green to accent your project.

Green is not a color that I would recommend when painting a whole house. However, I do recommend using green throw pillows, finding artwork with green, or a green vase to place on a mantel. You can also use good fake greenery such as artificial grass or another fun fake plant to add a pop of brightness into your home. Using a live green plant inside or outside is another great way to incorporate green. Finally, having a bowl of green apples or limes in your kitchen is a wonderful way to bring in the freshness of green. Now you know why green is one of my favorite colors, and I hope I have inspired you to add a little pop of green to your home.
